About us and how we pick

Simple Broadband exists for people who want a good broadband deal without spending an evening learning what FTTP means. We do the reading, compare the small print and then make a call.

The six things we check

Every pick is judged on the same points, in this order of weight.

  1. The full contract cost. We add up what you pay across the whole minimum term, including every annual price rise and any set-up fee, then take off the value of any reward. A cheap first month with steep rises later does not win.
  2. Speed for the household. We match the average download speed to the people and devices in the home, not to the fastest number available.
  3. Upload speed. Video calls, cloud backups and online gaming lean on upload, and it varies far more between providers than most people expect.
  4. Contract terms. Length, exit fees, notice periods and whether the price can rise beyond what you agreed.
  5. Service record. We look at Ofcom’s published complaint figures and the provider’s own commitments, such as automatic compensation and the broadband speeds code of practice.
  6. Availability. A brilliant deal that only reaches a handful of streets gets mentioned, but it rarely becomes our main pick.

The meaning of a simple pick

On each page, our simple pick is the package we think the largest group of readers in that situation should choose. We also say who it is wrong for. If a deal is only right for some readers, we tell you which ones.

Keeping prices current

Deals change most weeks. Every table shows the date we last checked it, and we recheck prices at least [twice a week / weekly]. Exact prices only appear in tables, so a single update keeps each page accurate.

Our independence

We earn a commission from some links on this site. Providers cannot pay to be our pick or to change our wording. Our affiliate disclosure explains how the money works.
