Black Friday broadband deals can reduce the cost of switching provider, upgrading to full fibre or renewing your package. The useful saving is the one left after you account for the whole contract, any exit fee and the services you actually need.
Start with your contract end date and the connections available at your address. Then compare suitable packages. A large discount on broadband you cannot get, or extra speed you will rarely use, does little for your household.
Black Friday broadband offers explained
Black Friday is a November sales event. Broadband providers use it to attract new orders through discounts, rewards and changes to what a package includes. The promotion usually changes the deal rather than the underlying broadband service.
| Offer type | What it provides |
|---|---|
| Monthly discount | Lower recurring charges |
| Introductory discount | Reduced charges for part of the contract |
| Reward card or voucher | A separate spending reward |
| Bill credit | Credit against broadband bills |
| Speed upgrade | A faster package |
| Included extra | Equipment or an additional service |
A bill credit reduces what you owe the provider. A shopping voucher does not reduce your Direct Debit. Treat them differently when deciding whether the monthly bills are affordable.
Check the duration of every benefit. An introductory discount can end before the minimum term, while an included subscription can become a paid extra unless you cancel it.
Black Friday dates and when to start looking
| Event | 2026 date |
|---|---|
| Black Friday | Friday 27 November |
| Cyber Monday | Monday 30 November |
Broadband promotions can begin before Black Friday and continue beyond the weekend. Providers set their own sale periods; there is no common launch date or closing date.
Begin comparing packages earlier in November. Save the details of suitable deals so you can recognise whether a later promotion changes the monthly charges, reward, contract length or included equipment.
An early offer deserves the same checks as one released on Black Friday itself. Waiting is useful only if a better package outweighs what you spend staying on your current service in the meantime.
The ordering date and activation date are separate. Before relying on a promotion, confirm whether its terms require you to place the order, complete installation or activate the service within a particular period.
Broadband providers to compare during Black Friday
BT, Plusnet, Vodafone, Sky, Virgin Media and EE have dedicated Black Friday pages. Hyperoptic has also run Black Friday promotions. Their participation does not mean every package is discounted or that every promotion is already available.
Use the following as a shortlist for comparison, then check the services offered at your address.
| Provider | Packages to compare |
|---|---|
| BT | Full fibre; broadband and TV |
| Plusnet | Broadband only; part fibre and full fibre |
| Vodafone | Standard full fibre; Pro broadband |
| Sky | Broadband only; broadband and TV |
| Virgin Media | Broadband only; TV and phone bundles |
| EE | Full fibre; packages with additional services |
| Hyperoptic | Full fibre at connected addresses |
Local full fibre networks deserve a separate check. Providers such as Community Fibre and YouFibre serve particular areas and can offer alternatives to the national providers. Compare their ordinary packages too, even when they are not labelled Black Friday.
Check broadband availability using your postcode and full address. Coverage can differ between neighbouring buildings, particularly in flats and recently connected streets.
How to judge whether a deal is worthwhile
Compare the whole minimum term
Add together the monthly charges payable during the contract, including introductory periods and scheduled increases. Then add compulsory setup, delivery and installation charges. Deduct bill credits that the terms confirm you will receive.
Keep shopping rewards separate from this bill total. You can account for their value when ranking deals, but only if you expect to claim and use them. A restricted voucher is less useful than cash if it cannot cover something you would otherwise buy.
| Detail | What to check |
|---|---|
| Minimum term | Number of months committed |
| Introductory period | Charges after the discount ends |
| Scheduled increases | Amounts and effective dates |
| Compulsory fees | Setup, installation and delivery |
| Rewards | Claim process and restrictions |
| Optional services | Trial expiry and cancellation |
| Contract expiry | Charges after the minimum term |
For new residential contracts with scheduled price increases, providers must show those changes in pounds and pence and explain when they apply. Do not assume a Black Friday promotion freezes your bill. Our broadband price rises guide explains the different arrangements.
Compare equivalent packages
Match the average download speed, average upload speed, minimum term and included services before judging the saving. An 18-month package and a 24-month package give you different dates at which you can leave without an early termination charge.
Likewise, broadband with a paid Wi-Fi service is different from broadband with only the standard router. If one deal includes TV, compare it with the other broadband package plus the television services you would actually buy.
Check both comparison-site and direct offers. The same provider and speed can come with different rewards or terms depending on where you order. Complete the purchase through the route specified by the promotion you intend to use.
Choosing the right broadband package
Speed for the way your household uses broadband
For many homes, a full fibre package with an average download speed of 100–150Mbps provides enough bandwidth for streaming, video calls and everyday use together. Frequent large downloads are a clearer reason to consider 300–500Mbps or gigabit broadband than the number of connected devices alone.
Netflix recommends at least 15Mbps for one 4K stream. Four streams at that recommendation account for 60Mbps, before other internet activity. A large game download can use the remaining bandwidth, so either allow more bandwidth or schedule downloads outside viewing hours.
Faster packages shorten download times substantially. The calculation below shows the difference for a 100GB game download.
| Download speed used in calculation | Calculated 100GB download time |
|---|---|
| 150Mbps | 1 hour 28 minutes 53 seconds |
| 300Mbps | 44 minutes 27 seconds |
| 500Mbps | 26 minutes 40 seconds |
| 900Mbps | 14 minutes 49 seconds |
These are theoretical times, rounded to the nearest second, using 100GB = 800 gigabits and the full stated speed throughout. They exclude network overheads, other household activity and download-server limits. They are calculations, not measured package results.
Online gameplay needs much less bandwidth than downloading a game. Moving from 150Mbps to 900Mbps does not, by itself, guarantee lower ping. Connection technology, Wi-Fi, network congestion and the game server also affect responsiveness.
If you regularly send large videos or back up work files, compare average upload speed as carefully as average download speed. Packages with similar download performance can have very different upload performance. Our guide to the broadband speed your home needs covers household requirements in more detail.
Connection type and Wi-Fi equipment
Confirm whether the package is full fibre, part fibre or cable. Switching provider does not automatically upgrade the connection technology. The full fibre and part fibre guide explains the differences and installation requirements.
Read the address-specific speed estimate and minimum guaranteed download speed before ordering. The guarantee is separate from the package’s average download speed; use the figure supplied for your order.
Check the exact router model and whether mesh units are included or require an additional service. If broadband performs well beside the router but poorly upstairs, buying a faster connection alone will not resolve the weak signal. Start with the advice on Wi-Fi boosters and mesh.
For multi-gigabit broadband, check the router’s Ethernet ports and your device’s networking hardware. A device connected through a 1Gbps Ethernet port cannot receive a 2Gbps download through that port.
Phone and TV requirements
Before choosing broadband only, establish what happens to your home phone number and any alarm connected to the line. Ask the new provider to confirm number transfer and service compatibility before you proceed.
With TV bundles, check the channels, streaming subscription versions, advertising, recording features and separate minimum terms. Count only the services you want, and avoid paying twice for an existing subscription.
Timing your switch around Black Friday
If your minimum term has ended
Compare the available packages now. Waiting several weeks can mean continuing to pay a higher out-of-contract charge, with no certainty that a later promotion will recover that spending.
Ask your current provider for its renewal terms as well. That gives you a relevant comparison against switching, particularly when you want to keep the same speed and services.
If your contract ends soon
Find the exact end date and ask the new provider which activation dates it can offer. Confirm that the promotional terms allow your chosen date before ordering.
Allow for an engineer appointment when a new connection is needed. An order placed during Black Friday does not guarantee installation that weekend or before Christmas.
If several months remain
Get an early termination charge for the proposed switch date. Compare leaving now with staying until your minimum term ends, using the same period for both calculations.
If a provider offers help with leaving fees, check the purchasing route, claim conditions and reimbursement method. Do not assume it can be combined with a comparison-site reward. Our guide to leaving a broadband contract early covers the checks in detail.
People receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit or certain other benefits should also compare broadband social tariffs. Seasonal promotions are only one route to reducing broadband costs.
Black Friday options for existing customers
New customer promotions do not automatically apply to an existing account. Check the renewal or upgrade offers available through your account, then ask whether the provider can improve them.
Give the provider a clear comparison: the service you need, the minimum term you will accept and a competing package available at your address. You do not need to accept a speed upgrade to make renewing worthwhile.
Before agreeing, establish whether the change starts a new minimum term, replaces your router or alters any bundled services. A faster plan with the same router will not necessarily improve Wi-Fi in distant rooms.
Keep the written renewal summary. If it differs from what was discussed, have the provider correct it before you agree.
Ordering your package and claiming rewards
Once you have chosen, follow these steps:
- Confirm the full address, package, speed estimate, minimum term and installation arrangements.
- Read the contract summary alongside the separate promotional terms. Save both, including the reward details shown when ordering.
- Use the required order link or purchasing route. Check restrictions before adding another discount code or cashback offer.
- For a One Touch Switch transfer, let the new provider arrange the change. Do not separately cancel the broadband being transferred.
- Check the order confirmation and activation date. Follow any reward instructions and keep the claim confirmation.
Under One Touch Switch, the old broadband service should end once the new service is working. Separate TV subscriptions or other services can need additional arrangements. Our guide to switching broadband explains the process.
Reward delivery varies by promotion. Some rewards are issued automatically; others require a claim after activation. Read the instructions for your own order, check your spam folder and record the claim deadline. Keep the original offer details if you need to query a missing reward.
Check the cancellation terms too. For broadband ordered online or by phone, the cooling-off period is normally 14 calendar days from entering the contract. Charges can apply for service supplied if you requested activation during that period.
FAQs
Are Black Friday broadband deals always the cheapest of the year?
No. Providers run promotions throughout the year. Compare the complete package with equivalent deals, rather than assuming the Black Friday label proves it is the cheapest.
Do Cyber Monday broadband offers differ from Black Friday deals?
They can, but a change is not guaranteed. A provider can continue an existing promotion, replace it or end it. Check the terms of the deal you are considering instead of relying on an assumed extension.
Can I combine a reward card with cashback or a discount code?
Only when the promotion permits it. Using a different purchasing route or adding a code can affect reward tracking. Get confirmation before combining offers, and do not include unconfirmed cashback in your savings calculation.
Can I get a Black Friday deal if I already use that provider?
You can take an offer that expressly includes existing customers or accept a separate renewal deal. A promotion restricted to new customers does not automatically apply when you upgrade or renew.
What happens to my reward if I cancel the order?
Cancelling normally removes the entitlement to a joining reward. If it has already been issued, the terms determine whether it is withdrawn or recovered. Read those conditions before spending a reward while a cancellation is being arranged.
