EE is BT Group’s other big broadband brand, and in many ways the more interesting one. It uses the same Openreach network as BT, but offers a faster top package, newer routers and discounts on EE mobile plans for broadband customers.
Our simple pick: EE Full Fibre 900. Right now it has no set-up fee and comes with a Reward Card, so over the contract it works out cheaper than EE’s slower full fibre packages, which carry a set-up fee and no reward.

As with BT, full fibre costs less than part fibre here. If your home can get full fibre, skip the Fibre 36 and Fibre 50 packages.
Who EE suits
- EE mobile customers, or anyone happy to move their phone to EE, because broadband customers get cheaper EE SIM plans.
- Gamers and very busy homes that want EE’s 1.6Gb package, which EE says comes with a guaranteed minimum speed and a Wi-Fi 7 router.
- People who want free access to EE’s network of Wi-Fi hotspots when out and about.
- Home workers who want an optional 4G back-up connection on a rolling monthly add-on.
Who should look elsewhere
- Buyers of the slower packages, where the set-up fee and lack of a reward make EE dearer than Vodafone or Plusnet over the contract.
- Heavy uploaders. EE’s upload speeds are well below its download speeds, like other providers that use the Openreach network.
Price rises
EE adds a fixed amount each year on 31 March, set out in pounds and pence when you order. TV bundles rise by a larger amount. The table shows the exact prices for each year of a new contract.
Router and Wi-Fi
EE offers its Smart Hub Plus with most packages and the Wi-Fi 7 Smart Hub Pro with its fastest package. With the Wi-Fi 7 hardware, EE promises a minimum Wi-Fi speed in every room or money back. A Wi-Fi 7 extender is available as an upgrade.
Calls, TV and switching
Home phone calls are available on full fibre packages only, as rolling monthly add-ons. EE TV comes with a choice of boxes and monthly channel packs.
EE has offered credit towards exit fees from your old provider. Check the current amount and the deadline for sending your final bill on EE’s order page.
Social tariff
EE doesn’t have its own broadband social tariff. Eligible customers can move to BT Home Essentials. See our social tariff guide.
FAQs
Is EE the same as BT?
Both are part of BT Group and use the Openreach network, but they are separate brands with different packages, routers and prices.
Does EE charge a set-up fee?
On some packages, yes. The fee varies by package, and Full Fibre 900 currently has none. The table above shows each one.
Do I need a landline for EE broadband?
Only for part-fibre packages. Full fibre doesn’t need a phone line, and calls can be added as a digital service.
Does EE have a 4G back-up option?
Yes. EE offers a 4G back-up router as a monthly add-on that keeps you online if your fixed line drops.
