Virgin Media Volt features and benefits

Free broadband speed boost

Volt upgrades your broadband to the next available speed without increasing your broadband subscription charge. For example, Virgin Media M250 can move to M350, while M500 can receive Gig1 speeds where available.

The upgrade is limited to Gig1. If you already have Gig1, Volt will not increase your speed to Gig2. The speed boost also does not include Virgin Media’s symmetrical upload add-on.

You can compare the available speeds in our Virgin Media broadband plans guide.

Double O2 mobile data

Volt doubles the data allowance on eligible O2 Pay Monthly plans in your household. For example, a 10GB plan becomes 20GB, while a 50GB plan increases to 100GB.

If you have several qualifying O2 SIMs registered at the same address, each can receive double data. Plans that already include unlimited data do not receive an additional allowance.

Free WiFi Max

Volt includes Virgin Media WiFi Max without an additional monthly charge. It guarantees at least 30Mbps download speed in every room of your home or a £100 bill credit, subject to the guarantee conditions.

Virgin Media can supply up to three WiFi Pods if your Hub cannot provide sufficient coverage. This is particularly helpful in larger homes with upstairs bedrooms or rooms separated by thick walls.

The service works with compatible Virgin Media Hubs. Our Hub 4, Hub 5 and Hub 5x comparison explains their Wi-Fi capabilities.

Roaming in 75 destinations

Eligible O2 customers get the Travel Inclusive Zone, which covers 48 European and 27 additional worldwide destinations, including the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

European roaming has a 25GB fair usage limit. In the 27 additional destinations, inclusive data is speed-capped at 500kbps, which is enough for messaging and basic browsing but can be slow for video streaming.

O2 Extras and Priority

Selected O2 plans include an entertainment or other subscription for a limited period. Depending on your tariff, you may get Disney+, Amazon Prime, Audible or another available Extra.

O2 Priority also provides offers, rewards and early ticket access for concerts and events. These perks are available to qualifying O2 customers and are not exclusive to Volt.

How to get Virgin Media Volt

If you already have Virgin Media broadband, you can qualify by taking an eligible O2 Pay Monthly SIM or mobile contract. Existing O2 customers can join Virgin Media to receive the same benefits.

Volt benefits are normally activated automatically within 14 days when both services are registered at the same address. Customers who joined both providers before 18 October 2021 may need to activate Volt through My O2 or My Virgin Media.

Virgin Media also offers broadband and SIM bundles with Volt benefits included. You can choose from different O2 mobile plans depending on how much data and which extras you need.

Volt and Max Volt are not the same thing. Volt refers to the broadband and mobile benefits. Max Volt is a specific bundle combining broadband, television and an O2 SIM.
