Sky WiFi Max – Features and FAQs

Sky WiFi Max is an optional broadband service that improves wireless coverage throughout your home. It includes the Wi-Fi 6 Sky Max Hub, access to mesh Wi-Fi extenders, parental controls and additional online security.

The service also guarantees a minimum Wi-Fi download speed in every room, depending on your broadband plan. If Sky cannot meet the guarantee after investigating the problem, you can claim money back.

Sky WiFi Max coverage guarantee

Sky guarantees a minimum wireless download speed in every room of your home. The guaranteed speed depends on your broadband plan.

Broadband plansMinimum Wi-Fi speed
Superfast 35, Superfast, Full Fibre 75 and Full Fibre 10010Mbps
Full Fibre 150, 300, 500, Gigafast and Gigafast+25Mbps

If a room falls below the guaranteed speed, Sky will investigate and may supply Wi-Fi extenders or arrange an engineer visit.

If Sky cannot resolve the problem, you can receive a credit equivalent to one month’s broadband and WiFi Max charges. You can also cancel the WiFi Max add-on without early termination fees, but this does not automatically cancel your broadband contract.

The guarantee starts 14 days after activation and excludes gardens, sheds and other external buildings. Only one claim is permitted per address during the 24-month minimum term.

Sky Max Hub and Wi-Fi Pods

WiFi Max includes the white Sky Max Hub router with Wi-Fi 6. Customers who already have a compatible Sky Max Hub or Gigafast+ Hub can continue using their existing router.

Sky Max Pods extend wireless coverage into rooms where the main router’s signal is weak. They work with compatible Sky routers to create a mesh Wi-Fi network.

Sky can provide up to three Pods without additional equipment charges if troubleshooting confirms they are needed. They are not automatically supplied to every customer.

The Pods remain Sky’s property and must be returned when you cancel WiFi Max.

Sky WiFi Max features

Advanced Security

Sky’s Advanced Security helps block known phishing and malware websites. It also monitors connected devices for suspicious activity and displays security alerts in the My Sky app.

You need to activate Advanced Security in the app before using it.

Parental controls

You can pause internet access for individual devices, set schedules and apply content restrictions.

For example, parents can pause a child’s tablet during bedtime without interrupting the internet connection on other devices.

Device Priority

Device Priority allows you to give one connected device preference on your home network.

This can help when you need to prioritise a work laptop during an important video meeting or a gaming console while several other devices are using Wi-Fi.

Device Priority must be switched off when checking your speeds under the WiFi Max Guarantee.

Broadband outage data

Sky Mobile customers with WiFi Max can receive 2GB of mobile data credited to their Sky Piggybank when their broadband connection suffers a complete outage lasting at least 30 minutes.

Sky limits this to three credits per calendar month and 24 credits over 24 months. This is additional mobile data, not an automatic mobile backup connection for your router.

Sky WiFi Max FAQs

Can existing Sky broadband customers add WiFi Max?

Yes. Most existing Sky fibre broadband customers can request WiFi Max. Adding it normally starts a new 24-month minimum term, so check the revised contract details before upgrading.

Can I use my own Wi-Fi extenders?

Third-party extenders may work with your broadband, but Sky recommends its own Max Pods for compatible mesh coverage. The WiFi Max Guarantee requires Sky’s specified equipment.

Does WiFi Max increase my broadband speed?

No. Your broadband download speed remains determined by your existing plan. WiFi Max improves wireless coverage and provides tools for managing connected devices; it does not increase the speed delivered to your router.
